What is IFS?
IFS, or Internal Family Systems, is a therapeutic approach that helps individuals identify and work with various parts within themselves to foster healing and self-awareness.

How does IFS help Christian Counselors?

Do you find yourself doing most of the talking in a Christian counseling session? Internal Family Systems is a model of psychotherapy that helps the counselee separate out the different voices they hear. IFS is a useful tool to help seekers notice where their thoughts and feelings are coming from. Is it the voice of a young, frightened part, or the echo of a condemning voice in their past, or the pure desire of their heart, or the voice of the Holy Spirit? With initial grounding and awareness of worldview and values, the counselee learns to distinguish these different voices and to have compassion on the parts of themselves that are "missing the mark" (meaning of the word sinning). This then allows a full realization of having died with Christ and rising with Him, hearing His voice and being filled with His Spirit and experiencing His guidance. 

What kind of support do you offer?

Our coaching sessions train you through the IFS experience to work with the different parts of a counselee that are showing up in a session. As you learn to recognize the different voices of the parts of you and the voice of the Spirit, you will be able to help your counselee recognize these as well.

About Alexandra McGee

Alexandra McGee, a Certified IFS Practitioner, has a BA from UC Berkeley, an MA in Counseling Psychology, and a "Work and Life Coach" Training Completion Certificate from UC Davis. She has worked as a Christian Counselor, Bible teacher and Mentor of women in the US and abroad for most of her adult life. Alexandra has also worked as a marriage and family therapist and a coach since 2015. At age 60, with five children and eight grandchildren, Alexandra is honored to share the expertise gathered from 36 years of marriage as well, with other therapists, coaches and counselors.
